Schitt’s Creek is a symbol of a homophobia-free community. According to an interview he had with the Advocate, viewers’ initial reaction to Patrick’s role was along the lines of “I hope nothing horrible happens to them.” It was my intention to avoid such an outcome, and I took active measures to do so. As a matter of fact, we have made it a policy to never include the opposing argument in our broadcast. I’ve made it a point to avoid portraying prejudice, homophobia, or intolerance on our show since it is a celebration of love.  It’s a time to honor the bonds we forge with our loved ones and the friends we make.
