Jim J. Bullock came out as homosexual on television years before he publicly revealed his sexual orientation on The Joan Rivers Show in 1990. He charmed his way from a one-time guest stint as naive, overgrown, and sexless man-child Monroe Ficus into a co-starring part on ABC’s fluff family comedy Too Close For Comfort for six years in the 1980s using an encyclopedia of exaggerated gestures and distorted expressions. The show was called Too Close For Comfort.

Although Jim engaged in internal conflict with Southern Baptist leaders like Anita Bryant and Billy Graham throughout his boyhood, his audiences were unaware of this. If you saw his stand-up performance at the Comedy Store in the late seventies, you undoubtedly wondered who that homosexual guy was who lip-synced in foam go-go boots to Nancy Sinatra.

He was the one with the perm. “I had energy shooting out of every hole in my body,” Bullock recalled to Queerty when asked about her experience. “There was no restriction on what I could do while I was on stage.” In 1999, Jim was taken into custody for having crystal meth in his hands. This was one of the actor’s most embarrassing moments during his career. He was placed on probation after being caught outside of a pub in West Hollywood, California, in the United States.

Additionally, he finished the national tour playing the part of Wilbur, which he had previously served on Broadway. The theater is where Jim earns the majority of his income. In the 1990s, he was no longer working on television, but he was beginning to have more possibilities in theater, where he continued to be active.
