Hardin first came to the notice of television writer Chris Carter with his performance in the film The Firm in 1993. Carter then hired Hardin as the recurring character of Deep Throat in the series The X-Files. Hardin first anticipated that his appearance in the first season’s first season’s second episode, which aired on September 17, 1993, would be a one-time performance.
