Perri is the daughter of Mary and Dante Perri, and she was born in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. She is related to Shinedown guitarist Nick Perri, who once played guitar with Silvertide, Perry Farrell, and Matt Sorum, as well as to Shinedown guitarist Dominic Perri, who is her older brother.
Her father was of Italian descent. 2004 was the year when she received her diploma from Archbishop Ryan High School. When she was 16 years old, she taught herself how to play the guitar by watching a movie of Blind Melon guitarist Shannon Hoon performing on VH1 and playing the instrument along with her.
As a child, she participated in numerous productions of musical theatre, in which she both sang and acted. Perri asserts that the reason she learned to play the piano and guitar is that after she moved out of the house, she longed to return home to the sound of the music being played. She would sing whenever she played the guitar or piano, and “all of a sudden these songs would arise,” according to Perri.
Career Early in one’s career Perri didn’t wait till she turned 21 to make the move to Los Angeles. Perri claims that she “cried her eyes out every day” because she was so worried about being almost 3,000 miles away from her family. She says that this caused her to feel “terrified.”
