Calvin Harris

On January 17, 1984, Calvin Harris was born in Dumfries to English parents David Wiles, a scientist, and Pamela Wiles, a housewife. David Wiles was Calvin Harris’s father, and Pamela Wiles was his mother. His siblings are Sophie, who is the eldest of the two, and Edward, who is the eldest of the two. After attending Cal dene Primary School and subsequently Dumfries High School, Wiles went on to work at supermarkets and a local fish processing factory after graduating from high school in order to save money for DJ equipment. Wiles now works as a DJ.

In his adolescence, he developed an interest in unorthodox styles of music, and in 1999, he began producing bedroom recordings. Harris debuted as a recording artist at the age of 18 with the release of two albums: “Da Bongos” and “Brighter Days.” Under the moniker “Stouffer,” the record company Prima Facie released both 12-inch club singles and CD-EPs at the beginning of the year 2002. Harris travelled from Scotland to London with these hits under his belt, with the intention of taking advantage of the local music environment there.

Only one of his recordings, “Let Me Know,” which featured singer Ayah Mara and was included on the Unabomber’s 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2, was released while he was living in London. As a result of the limited availability of career possibilities and resources, he relocated back to his hometown of Dumfries and started publishing home-made solo tracks on his Myspace page.

Mark Gillespie, a talent booker for the dance festival group Global Gathering who had recently formed his own management agency, made Harris the company’s first signee due to Harris’s success on the social media platform. Gillespie was inspired to start his own management agency after working as a talent booker for Global Gathering. When asked about the choice of his stage name, Harris responded as follows: “My first song was a soul record, and Calvin Harris felt a bit more ethnically nuanced to me.” It’s possible that people don’t realize I’m black, that’s what I theorized. After that, I had no choice but to keep it.”

Between the months of April and June of 2014, Harris was romantically involved with the British artist Rita Ora. Between the months of March 2015 and June 2016, Harris was romantically involved with the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Since 2014, Harris and the American model Arika Wolf have had a relationship that is on-again, off-again at various points. They had their first encounter on the shoot of his music video for “Blame” in August of 2014, and they started dating in October of that same year.

Some of his most well-known tracks are “We Find Love,” “This Is What You Come For,” “Summer,” “Feel So Close,” “Outside,” “Feels,” and “One Kiss.” Harris’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States was “We Found Love,” a duet with Rihanna that became a global smash and was Harris’s first number one song overall. He has been involved in the production of five studio albums and established his own record label, Fly Eye Records, in the year 2010.

I Produced Disco was his first album to be recorded in a studio and it was released in June of 2007. Both “Reasonable in the 80s” and “The Ladies” have made it into the top 10 of the charts in the United Kingdom. The year 2009 saw the release of his second studio album, Ready for the Weekend. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and contained the lead single “I’m Not Alone,” which became his first song to hit number one on the UK Singles Chart.

In 2012, Harris soared to worldwide stardom with the release of 18 Months, his third studio album. The record became his first to debut on the US Billboard 200, where it peaked at number 19 and topped the UK Albums chart. The album’s singles all peaked on the top 10 in the UK, breaking Michael Jackson’s record for the most top-ten songs from a studio album on the UK Singles Chart with eight entries. All eight of the album’s singles charted on the top ten in the UK.

In 2014, he released his fourth studio album titled Motion, which debuted at number two in the UK and number five in the US respectively. In 2017, he released his fifth studio album, which was titled Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. The album made its debut in the top two positions in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and it achieved his third straight number one on the US Dance/Electronic Albums list.

In October of 2014, he created history by being the first artist ever to achieve the feat of simultaneously having three tracks that were ranked inside the top 10 of Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Additionally, he was the first solo artist from the United Kingdom to reach one billion views on Spotify. Harris was awarded four Grammys in 2013, including one for best music video, and he has been nominated for a total of twelve Brit Awards, including British Producer of the Year in 2019.

In addition to this, he was selected as the Best Dance/Electronic Artist at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, and in 2013, he was presented with the Ivor Novella Award for Songwriter of the Year by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors. On March 30, 2015, it was announced that Harris, along with a number of other artists, is a co-owner of the music streaming website Tidal. Tidal is owned by a group of musicians. The service specializes on high-definition music videos and audio that has not been compressed in any way.

Aspire, the parent business of Tindal, was acquired by the rapper known as Jay Z in the first quarter of 2015. Tidal is owned jointly by a total of 16 artists, including Kanye West, Beyoncé, Madonna, Chris Martin, and Nicki Minaj among them. The other artists each have a 3 percent ownership part in the company.

In order to meet the growing demand for streaming within the new music industry and to compete with other streaming platforms like Spotify, which have been criticized for their inadequate payment of royalties, those involved in the project came up with the idea of establishing a subscription service that would be entirely owned by the artists who would be using it.

In 2017, he was recognised by Delbert’s as one of the most influential individuals in the United Kingdom. Between the years of 2013 and 2018, he dominated the list of the highest-paid DJs in the world that was compiled by Forbes. Despite the fact that Harris was said to be disinterested in his song “My Way,” he turned to funk for his fifth studio album, which was titled Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. Harris said in his 2016 interview that Jamiroquai and Fatboy Slim were two of the artists that inspired him to begin recording music.

He was raised in Dumfries with his elder brother Edward and older sister Sophie, where he also received his education at the ‘Dumfries High School.’ He was only a youngster when he developed an interest in electronic music and in 1999 he started making recordings in his bedroom. In 2002, he added two additional songs to his discography that were published on the Prima Facie label. After spending a short but futile period of time in London, he moved back to Dumfries, where he created solo recordings at home and uploaded them to his “Myspace” page. He then returned to Dumfries. Gradually,

Mark Gillespie, a talent booker, saw Harris after he got popularity on Myspace and signed him to his own newly created agency. Harris’s firm was only getting started. 2006 was the year that he signed contracts with Sony BMG, EMI, and Three Six Zero Group. Later on in the same year, he produced a remix of the hit “Rock Steady” by the English-Canadian girl group “All Saints.”

On June 15, 2007, his first album created in a recording studio, titled “I Created Disco,” was released by Columbia Records. He was solely responsible for the composition, production, and performance of all 14 songs on the album. It soon climbed to the top spot on the UK Dance Albums Chart after making its debut at number eight on the UK Albums Chart.

Gold certification was bestowed to it by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on May 23, 2008. As part of his collaboration with the rapper Dizzied Rascal, he was responsible for writing and performing the hook for the latter artist’s track “Dance with Me.” After its first release on June 22, 2008, the song quickly ascended to number one on the UK Singles Chart and remained at that position for a total of four weeks.

On August 14, 2009, his second studio album, titled “Ready for the Weekend,” was released by “Columbia Records.” The album shot straight to the top of the UK Albums Charts at its first release. Eleven of the album’s fourteen songs were written and performed by him, and he also produced the record.
On August 23, 2009, he maintained his great cooperation with Dizzied Rascal by creating the smash song “Holiday,” which was released by the latter. The song that he wrote for the girl group known as “The Saturdays” but was turned down by them went on to become the most popular single in the United Kingdom.

The first song to be released from the album titled “Ready for the Weekend,” titled “I’m Not Alone,” arrived at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The album has been given a gold certification by BPI. Harris was granted composition credit for Chris Brown’s popular single “Yeah 3x,” which was released in October 2010, as a result of the song’s similarity to Chris Brown’s version of the tune.

It was the last song he sung as a regular performer for his own efforts, and it was released on February 8, 2010. The song was titled “You Used to Hold Me,” and it was the fourth and final single from the album “Ready for the Weekend.” Since 2011, he has shifted his primary attention toward the production of music, and he often features guest vocalists on his songs.

During this same period, he also took the choice to quit performing in live events, and as a result of this decision, he broke ways with the band that he had been connected with as the main singer. After that, he went on to create new versions of other songs, such as Mr. Hudson’s “Supernova,” Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas,” and Shakira’s “She Wolf.” While this was going on, he established the record label Fly Eye Records in March of 2010, and by 2014, they had formed a partnership with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

On August 19, 2011, he released ‘Feel So Close,’ the second single from his third studio album, ’18 Months.’ The album wasn’t released until October 26, 2012, after it had already been preceded by the single. Not only was it his comeback to singing, but it was also his first solo effort to reach #12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was successful in both of these endeavours.
