His contract with Sesame Street was not extended in 2016 as part of Sesame Workshop’s retooling of the series; nonetheless, the organization said that Orman would continue to represent it at public events. Sesame’s Workshop is responsible for the retooling. He reprised his role as Gordon in the 50th-anniversary special of Sesame Street, which aired in 2018, and in a few of the films uploaded to YouTube that same year.

A town hall discussion on CNN in 2019 titled “Coming Together: Standing Up To Racism,” which included former Sesame Street cast member Sonia Manzano, and a television program titled “The Power of We,” which was also about racism, were both released in the same year. Roscoe Orman has portrayed the character of Gordon on Sesame Street since 1973 (he was the third actor to take on the position), and he claims that despite the passage of time, the show’s fundamental goal of educating children has stayed the same.

The main objective has never been an education in the classic sense of the word, teaching the letters and numbers children need when they start school. Instead, the focus has always been on preparing children for the challenges they will face. “We’ve tackled some pretty significant issues over the years,” he adds. “We’ve made some pretty significant progress.” “Adoption, passing away. In recent years, we produced a film that dealt with divorce, another challenging subject matter.

The tender-voiced actor Roscoe Orman, best known to generations of children as Gordon on “Sesame Street,” has lost a palimony struggle with the mother of his four children over what she claims was an unwritten promise to pay for her for the rest of her life. The dispute centered on what she says was a verbal commitment to provide for her for the rest of her life.

Joiner-Orman filed a lawsuit against Orman, citing commitments she alleges he made to her throughout their 39 years together, a time during which she put her career dreams on hold while Orman became a mainstay on “Sesame Street” for almost four decades. Joiner-Orman was facing eviction from the Montclair house they formerly shared, and she cited these pledges in her lawsuit.

A Newark Superior Court Judge named Ned Rosenberg concurred with Joiner-Orman in a verdict handed down one month ago. This decision looks to be the first of its type. Rosenberg said that Orman was required to continue paying palimony, even though the couple had never put anything written anything agreement.
