After watching her older brother Daniel Ben Wilson (often known as Danny) begin a career in acting for television commercials when Mara was just 5 years old, she decided that she wanted to do the same thing.

At first, her parents would not consent to let her perform. After much persuasion from Mara Elizabeth, her parents finally gave in and consented to her request that she be allowed to attempt a career in acting. She then went on to make appearances in a number of advertisements, including ones for Texaco and the Bank of America, among others.

She also had a role in the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire, which starred Robin Williams and Sally Field in the roles of the child’s once married parents. Her acting career moved from strength to strength as she immediately became a favorite among moviegoers as she demonstrated her ability as a great young actor in the role that she played.

But her big break came with the 1994 version of Miracle the 34th Street, in which she played the role of a small girl who was smart and skeptical but eventually came to believe in Santa Claus.
