Jon Bon Jovi

As the son of Carol and John Francis Bongiovi Sr., Jon Bon Jovi was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His father worked in the coating industry, while his mother was a Playboy Bunny turned florist. He comes from a large family, with two older brothers. In fact, he’s the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in New Jersey. He spent his adolescence daydreaming about being a famous rock star rather than attending school. He started off performing at his cousin Tony’s recording studio, The Power Station.

Almost immediately, he began singing and performing in nightclubs, often sharing the stage with keyboardist David Bryan and bands like “The Rest,” “The Lechers,” “John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones,” and others. He dropped out of school and became a Janitor. While on duty at The Power Station, Jovi was able to record demos with acclaimed musicians. In 1983, Mercury/Polygram signed him when a New Jersey radio station played one of his songs, “Runaway.”

Bon Jovi was the name of the band in which Jovi participated. Alec John Such is on drums, and David Bryan plays bass in the band.  The second studio album of the band Bon Jovi, titled 7800 Fahrenheit, was released in 1985. The album broke records and was certified gold in sales. Although they were successful, Jovi felt they were not recognized enough. The cousin of Jovi and owner of The Power House, Tony, filed a lawsuit against the band at the same time, taking credit for the group’s success. In 1986, the situation was finally resolved.

Lyrics for their third album, 1986’s “Slippery When Wet,” was written by Desmond Child’s company, a professional music writing outfit. The band’s music was a global phenomenon; in the United States alone, 9 million copies were purchased. As a result of his achievements, Jon was hired by Cher in 1987 to produce her self-titled album. We All Sleep Alone features his backing vocals, and he also contributed to the song’s writing. Many of the album’s tracks were also produced by him.

In 1988, he made his first film appearance in “The Return of Bruno,” which also marked the beginning of his cinematic singing career. Additionally, he helped produce Cher’s Heart of Stone album around the same time. In 1988, he also dropped his fourth studio album, titled New Jersey. After 18 months of touring the world, the band decided to record its follow-up album there.

After the 1990 ‘New Jersey tour ended, the band members were all mentally and physically exhausted, which weakened their chemistry. A soundtrack for the movie “Blaze of Glory” was recorded by Jovi that same year. Jovi launched his record label ‘Jambco Records in 1991, and he has since worked on albums by Aldo Nova and Billy Falcon. The band’s longtime management, Bon Jovi Management, was founded by him the same year.

The members of the band put their differences aside and recorded 1992’s “Keep the Faith” as a united unit. Commercially, the album did not fare as well as its predecessors. In 1994, Bon Jovi released “Cross Road,” his most commercially successful album to date. New songs such as “Always” and “These Days” were included on the CD as well. The album did very well in the United Kingdom.

In 1995, he was cast in a pivotal part alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Kathleen Turner in the film Moonlight and Valentino. His breakout role as “The Leading Man” didn’t come until the following year. “Destination Anywhere” was Jovi’s first solo album, published in 1997. This album did incredibly well commercially. A short film starring Jovi, Demi Moore, and others was also just unveiled. In the years that followed, he directed movies including Row Your Boat and Homegrown. After a hiatus of five years, in 2000 Bon Jovi returned with their seventh studio album, Crush. A Grammy-winning smash, “It’s My Life” was the album’s breakout track. The album also took home the trophy for Best Rock Album.

Around this time, Jovi returned to the big screen and delivered a string of critically acclaimed performances in films including “Pay It Forward,” which starred Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt, and “U-571,” which starred Matthew McConaughey and Harvey Keitel. Ally McBeal, an American sitcom that launched his career, aired in 2002 and made him a household name. Jovi gained fame as a result of his appearance in this short-lived series. The band “Bon Jovi” released a string of albums between 2002 and 2009, including “Bounce,” “Have a Nice Day,” “Lost Highway,” and “The Circle.”

Despite the enormous hair and ’80s-inspired music of the time, Bon Jovi was one of the most popular American rock bands of the ’80s. Fans of Bon Jovi could be found all over the world, as the band’s fame was not confined to the United States.

Bon Jovi stands out from the crowd of late-’80s MTV favourites thanks to the band’s ability to evolve with the times. Blending soft rock and country music helped the band stay popular into the 21st century.

Singer Jon Bon Jovi (born Jon Bongiovi) and longtime friend David Bryan got their start performing in Jersey cover bands when they were kids, which is where the band got its name (born David Rashbaum). While working as a janitor at Tony Bongiovi’s Power Station studio in New York City, Jon would occasionally record demos with the E Street Band or Aldo Nova, with the assistance of Bongiovi himself. When “Runaway” became a hit on New Jersey radio, it inspired Jon and Bryan to form Bon Jovi with guitarist Dave Sabo, bassist Alec John Such, and drummer Tico Torres. In 1983, Polygram/Mercury won a bidding war for the recording rights to “Runaway.” Richie Sambora, a working guitarist with a lengthy resume who had played in the band Message, stepped in to replace Sabo before the band even entered the studio.

As the lead single from their self-titled debut album, Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” soared to the top of the charts in the early ’80s. The band’s breakthrough album, 1986’s Slippery When Wet, was released the year after and certified gold. Two of the album’s most popular songs were written by Jon and Richie Desmond Child in Richie’s parent’s basement after Paul Stanley gave Jon Desmond Child’s phone number to Jon. The band performed a setlist of 30 songs for an audience of New York and New Jersey high school students.

Immediately following the massive success of “You Give Love a Bad Name,” the hits “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “Wanted Dead or Alive” entered MTV’s heavy rotation. Thanks to the popularity of those three Top Ten Hits, nine million copies of Slippery When Wet were sold in the United States alone. The album was a smash hit not just in the United States, but also in Europe, Canada, Japan, and Australia.

The band disbanded 18 months after their world tour. Jon Bon Jovi’s break from the band resulted in the release of Blaze of Glory, the Young Guns II soundtrack CD. Both “Miracle” (which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100) and the album’s title tune were huge hits.

Don’t Lose Hope, Once the band reunited the next year, they immediately began working on what would become their fifth studio album, which was released in the fall of 1992. Despite the fact that the success of the adult contemporary ballad “Bed of Roses” wasn’t quite on par with that of its predecessors, the song was nevertheless a huge success for the band. Cross Road, a compilation album from 1994, featured “Always.”

Hugh McDonald replaced Alec John Such as Bon Jovi’s de facto bassist, and his contributions may be heard throughout the group’s future studio efforts. The 1995 album These Days, which was released in the fall, was the band’s third consecutive Top Ten hit in the United States and a massive success in Europe. After making appearances in Moonlight and Valentino, Jon Bon Jovi released his debut solo album, Destination Anywhere, in the summer of 1997.

Sambora’s second solo album, Undiscovered Soul, was released in 1998, while the rest of Bon Jovi was busy with other projects. From the album Crush, released in 2000, came the smash song “It’s My Life,” which enjoyed a long run and represented somewhat of a comeback in the United States.

Due in large part to the success of “Thank You for Loving Me,” Crush was certified double platinum in the United States and has sold over eight million copies worldwide. The fall of 2002 saw the release of Bounce, Bon Jovi’s eighth studio album, and another round of international touring in support of the album. The band’s 2003 acoustic album, This Left Feels Right, featured new renditions of some of their most popular songs.
