In the film Russkies (1987), he played the character of Mischa, and in the film Top Gun (1986), he played the role of Hollywood. When Hubley originally read the screenplay for Top Gun, he thought it would be an ensemble piece. However, the producers decided to center the tale on Maverick after ” realizing what they had with Tom.”
Later, he appeared as Brian Hawkins in two episodes of the Showtime miniseries More Tales of the City (1998) and its sequel, Further Tales of the City (2001). These miniseries were continuations of the PBS miniseries “Tales of the City,” which first aired in 1994 and featured Paul Gross as the character Brian. On the new version of Flipper, in which Hubley starred from 1996 to 1999, the primary symbol of Sheriff Tom Hampton was played by Hampton.

According to the South Portland (Maine) Police Department, the well-liked K-9 Sergeant Stephenson was doing his rounds when he bumped into a somewhat renowned yet humble star of the original Top Gun movie from 1986, who also happens to be a resident of South Portland. The film was set in South Portland.
The two started talking about neighborhood issues, and Sergeant Stephenson was pleased to find that his friend Whip Hubley had portrayed the role of “Hollywood” in Top Gun. The discussion moved on to other subjects. “Hollywood” refers to one of the other dynamic duos who attended the Top Gun Training Center and played a vital role in the film.
According to the post on Facebook, Sergeant Stephenson questioned Private Hubley about his interest in joining the police force. The South Portland Police Department is actively seeking more excellent men and women to join their community. To lure a particular celebrity to join the department, the department even went to the extreme of putting a fake version of the term “Hollywood” on the police chief’s black Suburban.
According to an interview in 2022 with the Portland Press Herald, Hubley is now employed as a manager for a construction company in Southern Maine and also performs in shows at the local theater.
