Both her writings and her FanWings inspire a great deal of enthusiasm and adoration in Tui (Wings of Fire fans). She enjoys participating in live conversations on the Scholastic Wings of Fire forum and has a number of short videos uploaded to the Scholastic channel on the video-sharing website YouTube. While she is writing, she will frequently switch up her favourite dragon, and she will also consult other books on dragons for inspiration. She chose to honour her with the name Sunny, the puppy that she adores so much that she named after her. Unfortunately, Sunshine went away in the summer of the year 2020; Tui ultimately obtained a new dog, and her children named him Bumblebee.

Tui is the author of more over 30 books for children and teenagers. Her works range in difficulty from easy-to-read sticker books (Meet Mo and Ella and Fun with Mo and Ella, both published by Grosset & Dunlap in 2002 and 2003) to novels for readers in middle school and high school. Her debut novel for young adults, an updated retelling of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream published by HarperTeen in 2004, was titled This Must Be Love. She then went on to write the supernatural, post-apocalyptic, and mythology-focused Avatars young adult trilogy (Book One: So This Is How It Ends, Book Two: Shadow Falling, Book Three: Kingdom of Twilight, published by Eos, 2006-08). Under the pen name Erin Hunter, Tui is also one of the four authors working on the best-selling epic animal fantasy Warriors and Seekers books.
Her two most recent contributions to the series, Seekers Book One: The Quest Begins (Harper, 2008) and Seekers Book Three: Smoke Mountain (Harper, 2009), both made it onto the list of books that are best-selling in The New York Times. She has written a five-book Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off series entitled Legends of the Brethren Court (Disney, 2008-09), and she has also written the novelization of the third movie, which was also on the New York Times bestseller list (although she is pretty sure that Johnny Depp gets more credit for that than she does). Both of these works were published by Disney.
She penned a Little House on the Prairie spin-off novel titled Nellie Oleson Meets Laura Ingalls under the alias Heather Williams (Harper, 2007). Under the pen name Tamara Summers, she is also the author of teen beach romance novels such as He’s With Me (published by Scholastic in 2007) and Save the Date (HarperTeen, 2008). Never Bite a Boy on the First Date is the title of Tamara Summers’s upcoming novel, which will be published by HarperTeen in September of this year. The novel is a vampire murder mystery with a hilarious romance element. During her time as a contestant on Jeopardy! in 2009, she was victorious on both days of the competition and walked away with a total prize pool of $46,200.
When she works on the Seekers and Warriors novel series with editor Victoria Holmes and fellow authors Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, and others, she uses the pen name Erin Hunter, which is also shared with these other authors. In addition to that, she is famous for penning the novels that make up the Wings of Fire series. Before coming to New Jersey when he was in high school, Sutherland had previously called the cities of Asuncion, Paraguay; Miami, Florida; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic home. She started doing theatre when she was a senior in high school, and much of her involvement was behind the scenes.
