Since 2005, when Hollywood economist Edward Jay Epstein first coined the phrase, “one of the most powerful — and richest forces in Hollywood” to describe Cruise, the actor has been widely known for his skill at negotiating lucrative film deals. Epstein said that Cruise, along with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Jerry Bruckheimer, is one of the few producers who can ensure the financial success of their films. Epstein goes on to say that the public’s preoccupation with Cruise’s tabloid troubles prevents them from seeing his remarkable commercial acumen for what it really is.

First meeting on the set of Days of Thunder, where they both starred, Cruise and Kidman later married for the second time (1990). The couple tied the knot on December 24th, 1990.
