Thomas Rhett was able to move into the void left by Sam Hunt’s seamless combination of current Country and R&B because of his voice’s effortless charm and warm tone. Rhett made his debut during the conclusion of the bro-country trend that dominated the 2010s. He didn’t find his groove until 2015, when he released “Crash and Burn” and “Die a Happy Man,” which peaked at number one on Country Airplay’s charts that year. He maintained this position far into the early years of the 2020s.

By the time he published Where We Had Started at the beginning of 2022 — it had come right after 2021’s Country Again: Side A — he had already accomplished a great deal. Rhett had amassed 17 songs that had debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Airplay charts, solidifying his position as one of the most successful country-pop artists of his age. Country Once More: Side B was released in the year 2023.

He was born on March 30, 1990, in Valdosta, Georgia. His parents, Paige Braswell and musician Rhett Akins named him Thomas Rhett Akins Jr. Music profoundly impacted his life from an early age, and he picked up drumming when he was a member of a band called The High Heeled Flip Flops. Rhett often joined his father on stage to play the drums with him.

Rhett received his undergraduate education at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he focused on communications. It was a difficult period for him since he had no idea what he wanted to do for a living except make music, and the only reason he went to college was because his buddies did. Rhett left college at the age of 20 to devote himself entirely to a career in music.

He was offered his first recording contract by Big Machine Label Group after a manager saw him perform at a bar and was impressed by his talent. He was presented with the chance to create songs for the label and gladly took advantage of the opportunity. Thomas Rhett, a country singer and composer born in Georgia and the son of Rhett Akins, a country singer who won several awards, didn’t give much thought to following in his father’s footsteps until his final year of high school.

Rhett signed a publishing agreement with EMI only two years into his collegiate career, and he landed a song (“I Ain’t Ready to Quit”) on fellow country-rocker Jason Aldean’s 2010 record My Kind of Party. Rhett was raised on a constant diet of Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones. Like Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, and Justin Moore, Rhett can bridge the gap between polished modern Country and raucous, good-time rock and roll.

He tested this equation on his first song 2011, “Something to Do with My Hands.” Early in 2013, he released an EP labeled “self-titled,” that same year, he released his first full-length album, “It Goes Like This.” Because of the success of the Top Ten country smash singles “It Goes Like This,” “Get Me Some of That,” and “Make Me Wanna,” the album was able to reach number six on the Billboard 200 list and the Top 30 in Canada. These achievements were made possible by the fact that all three songs topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

Tangled Up, Rhett’s sophomore album, was released in September of 2015 and was propelled to success by the track “Crash and Burn,” which topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and landed the number two position on the Hot Country chart. Tangled Up became such a massive success that it remained on the charts into 2016 thanks to “Die a Happy Man,” the album’s second number-one hit, and “T-Shirt,” the third single. In the same year, a deluxe version of the album was released, including the track “Star of the Show,” which also successfully reached the Top Ten.

Rhett made his comeback in the music industry in 2017 with the release of his third studio album, Life Changes. The album included the track “Craving You,” which featured Maren Morris. After that, in 2019, “Look What God Gave Her” was released as the lead-off single to the full-length album Center Point Road in June of the same year. Both of these albums reached number one on the Billboard 200 album list and the Top Country Albums chart; the later LP also received a nomination for the 62nd annual Grammy Award in the category of Best Country Album.

Rhett’s collaboration with Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban was included in his tune “Be a Light,” released in March 2020. “Be a Light” was released as a message of encouragement in the early stages of the COVID-19 epidemic. The song’s revenues were donated to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. The song reached its highest position on the Billboard Country Airplay chart at number two.

With the release of Country Again: Side A in 2021, Rhett returned to more traditional complex country music. This album was the first half of a planned double album. The singer announced his new direction with the tune “What’s Your Country Song,” which debuted at number one on the Country Airplay chart at the tail end of 2020. He then released “Country Again,” his second chart-topping record, at the beginning of 2021. The album was another successful venture, reaching its highest position on the country chart at number two.

Late in the same year, Rhett released “Slow Down Summer,” the first single from Where We Started, an album that debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and came out before the publication of the second volume of Country Again. As a result of Rhett’s productive run, which is chronicled in Where We Started, the publication of Country Again: Side B has been pushed back to the year 2023.
