At the Maine General Hospital in Portland on September 21st, 1947, Stephen Edwin King was welcomed into the world. His mother, Nellie Ruth (Pillsbury), was a caregiver at a mental institution, and his father, Donald Edwin King, was a merchant seaman. He was the only child of his parents. Stephen was given the surname “King” despite the fact that his father had been given the surname “Pollock” at birth but used the name “King” for himself. In 1965, the short tale “I Was a Teenage Grave Robber” that King had written was published for the first time in the journal Comics Review. This was King’s first actual appearance in print. The length of the narrative was approximately 6,000 words. He received a scholarship at the University of Maine after graduating from high school in 1966 and going on to study there. When Martin Luther King Jr. reflected back on his time spent in high school, he remarked that “My high school career was completely unremarkable and uneventful. In June of 1999, King was involved in an accident that left him with serious injuries. At the time of the accident, he was walking along the side of a highway when he was struck by a car. As a result of the accident, King was hospitalized in critical condition with injuries to his lung, broken ribs, a broken leg, and a severely fractured hip. After undergoing surgery at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for a total of three weeks, he was finally discharged. When he was a young child, his father left him and the rest of the family. After that, his family made the decision to make their home in Stratford, Connecticut; but, when he was eleven years old, they moved back to Maine. Despite the fact that King can not remember the occurrence, his family claims that he witnessed his friend being killed by a train after being struck by it.
