The Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were both 1976 expansion teams. Largent attended the University of Tulsa, a less prestigious school in his home state, despite his status as an outstanding high school football player and all-around athlete. Largent had one of the best college football careers ever at Tulsa and was drafted by the Houston Oilers when he graduated in 1976. However, the Oilers traded him to the Seattle Seahawks before the season started, therefore he never played for Houston.
Largent made an immediate impact for the Seahawks in his first season with the team, catching 54 passes. Although he was and remains a solid athlete, his strengths lie elsewhere. He was never the fastest player or the best jumper or the quickest off the line of scrimmage at the professional level. His greatness as a receiver stemmed from his deft hands, keen mind, ability to execute precise routes that put him in position to make a catch, and brute power to push forward for additional yardage. Largent played his whole professional football career in Seattle until retiring in 1989. From 1991 to 1994, he was a marketing consultant for the Sara Lee Corporation before deciding to run for national office, capping off a career of civic engagement and political interest. Largent was elected to represent Oklahoma’s first congressional district in 1994. After being reelected three times, he stepped down in 2002 to run unsuccessfully for governor of Oklahoma. He headed a cellular communications advocacy organization as CEO and president from 2003 until 2014.
After completing his military service, Allen attended Washington State University to pursue his academic interests. But after two years, in 1974, he dropped out to work as a computer programmer for the American advanced technology business Honeywell Inc., located not far from Cambridge, where Gates was a student at Harvard. Together, Allen and Gates reworked the famous programming language BASIC for use on early microcomputers, a feat that marked the duo’s first collaboration in over a decade.
The American electronics firm Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) commissioned Allen and Gates to port BASIC to the Altair in 1975. Afterward, Allen took the position of vice president and software director at MITS’s headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the completion of this project, Gates decided to leave Harvard as a junior. He and Paul Allen then founded Micro-Soft, the precursor of Microsoft, in 1975.
After leaving MITS in 1976, Allen went to work full-time for Microsoft. He was instrumental in the company’s success by helping to secure a nonexclusive license for the DOS operating system in 1980 and by brokering the rights to provide the software for IBM personal computers the following year. While he remained on the board of directors after resigning as Microsoft’s top technologist in 1983, Allen was the company’s chief technical officer for a decade.
Allen’s investments have been managed through Vulcan Inc., a personal holding company he and his sister Jo Lynn Allen Patton created in 1986. From 1988 on, he was the sole owner of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, and in 1990, he cofounded the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation with his wife, Patton, a private foundation that helps improve life in the Pacific Northwest by giving to a wide range of charities. Allen joined the band Grown Men as their guitarist. In 1997, he founded Vulcan Productions and, the following year, purchased the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.

Alexander gained 1,318 yards in 2001, the first of five straight seasons in which he would get 1,000 yards or more. The Seahawks cut ties with him in April 2008 after he posted 89.6 and 55.1 rushing yards per game in 2006 and 2007, respectively. In October of 2008, Alexander inked a contract with the Washington Redskins. Just four games into his Redskins career, he was cut loose.
