Queen Latifah Owens was born on 18 March 1970 in Newark, New Jersey. Her father was a member of the police force.  Her mother raised her in the Baptist religion. Her mother was instrumental in catalysing her musical career.Lance Owens, her older brother, was also a police officer. In 1992, he was killed in a motorcycle accident. Latifah gave him with this motorcycle.In Newark, New Jersey, she attended a Catholic school. Throughout her high school years, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
