Lee Majors

Lee Majors’ birthdate is April 23, 1939, and his hometown is Wyandotte, Michigan. His birth name at birth was Harvey Lee Yeary. Lee Yeary’s father Carl Yeary was a laborer who was killed on the job. A homemaker, his mother Alice Yeary was killed in a car accident before he turned two. Lee’s uncle Harvey Yeary and aunt Mildred Poore took him in when he was abandoned before he turned two. His captors took him to their Middlesboro, Kentucky, residence. He learned of his adoption when he was a teenager, and he vowed then to do everything in his power to make his new family pleased.

Throughout his childhood, he dreamed of one day leading a football team as a coach. He joined the ‘Middlesboro High School football squad. He received a football scholarship to attend “Indiana University” after he graduated in 1957. He transferred to “Eastern Kentucky University” in Richmond in 1959, where he broke his back in a game and spent the next six weeks paralyzed from the waist down.

In 1962, he earned a degree in history and physical education from “Eastern Kentucky.” In 2006, the school awarded him an honorary doctorate for his contributions to the field. At the ‘Pioneer Playhouse’ in Danville, Kentucky, he first developed a passion in acting and began performing in plays. He was recruited by the ‘St. Louis Cardinals after finishing college. However, he relocated to California and is now the director of recreation and parks in Los Angeles.

While in California, he met various performers and other professionals, such as agent Dick Clayton. In preparation for a future in the entertainment industry, he spent a year studying at both Clayton’s acting school and Estelle Harman’s acting school at MGM. He took the name “Lee Majors” in honor of Johnny Majors, a football great who was his hero growing up. Lee Majors is a well-known American film, television, and voice actor. He is best known for his portrayals of such famous characters as ‘Heath Barkley’ in ‘The Big Valley’ and ‘Colonel Steve Austin’ in ‘The Six Million Dollar Man. He was raised by his paternal uncle and aunt after his parents died when he was two years old. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan.

He had always dreamed of leading a football team as a coach, but a serious injury suffered in college put an end to that ambition. Lee Majors began his acting career at the age of 25, after working as a parks and recreation director in Los Angeles following his graduation from college. Lee Majors was inspired by Johnny Majors, a football great who was a hero of his youth, and so he took Majors’ name as his stage name. Slowly but surely, his many guest roles on hit shows and in blockbuster movies propelled him to stardom. Then he went on to lend his voice to a number of cartoons and video game protagonists.

The television movie “The Ballad of Andy Crocker” starred him in the lead in 1969. Also that same year, he was offered the lead role in “Midnight Cowboy,” but he turned it down because “The Big Valley” was renewed for a second season. The Liberation of L.B. Jones, William Wyler’s final film, starred the actor in 1970. He was also in the final season of “The Virginian.” In the 1973 ABC TV movie “The Six Million Dollar Man,” he played the role of “Colonel Steve Austin,” an ex-astronaut with superhuman abilities thanks to bionic implants.

Worldwide acclaim was received by the weekly ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ series that aired from 1974 to 1978. The show was broadcast in over 70 countries, making him a household name all over the world. However, the show was discontinued in 1978 due to legal disputes with “Universal Television.”

During his time in high school, Lee enrolled at Middlesboro. Surprisingly, at the time, acting wasn’t something he was considering, as he was more focused on sports. Back in 1957, he graduated from high school with a high enough grade point average to obtain a full tuition scholarship to Indiana University. Before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University two years later, Majors was a member of the university’s football team. Lee was disabled for weeks after a horrible accident in his debut game in 1960, thereby terminating his undergraduate athletic career. Lee recovered from his injuries and continued to pursue his dream of being an actor. Pioneer Playhouse in Danville, Kentucky, featured him in multiple productions. The veteran actor completed his undergraduate degree in 1962, majoring in PE and history.

That same year, he landed his first significant acting role in the professional world. Clayton told Lee, “You’re ready,” after 18 months of training at MGM, prompting a somewhat shocked reaction from Lee. Lee Majors went to CBS Studio Centre for his first job interview, where he found out that the creators of a new TV show called The Big Valley were looking for three attractive men to play the show’s male stars. Lee has a tryout scheduled for the part of Heath Barkley. Over four hundred performers tried out for the position, thus competition was fierce. Many of them had been in the TV industry for quite some time and could boast an extensive resume.

According to Lee’s recollection, “they asked for my credits and I didn’t have any.” He was “extremely afraid and worried” before the competition, he says honestly. “Until now, it has always given me the chills. Nonetheless, I anticipated that it would be taxing on my mind. Physical labor was something for which I was ill-prepared. However, it was my own personal preference.” Lee’s talent and perseverance paid off, as he landed the role of Heath Barkley on the new show. Heath is the illegitimate son of Tom Barkley, and he is adopted by the Barkley family in the pilot episode.

The fact that Lee had never ridden a horse before he was signed as “Heath”! was one of his biggest doubts at the beginning of his time on the show. The rest of the actors noticed how hard he worked to perfect his skill and memorize his lines. “Lee claimed at the time, “I’ve attempted to better my trade, and I’ve studied the basic techniques of acting. My attention has been focused on the direction. Actors, especially newcomers, benefit from learning all they can about the industry. I’ve attended scoring sessions, watched editors at work, and participated in dubbing sessions.”

Lee Majors infomation

For Lee’s debut series, his publicist, Dave Gershenson, came across a photo of a young woman who had recently moved to Hollywood in hopes of getting her big break. That sassy lady was none other than Farrah Fawcett. Gershenson anticipated that his client would be interested in this Texan beauty, and Farrah later recalled, “When I first heard from Lee Majors, he was the rudest man I’d ever encountered.” Lee left a message on Farrah’s answering machine at the all-girls boarding house where she was staying, reading: “Please inform her that Lee Majors will be over at eight o’clock to pick her up.”

This was the first time Farrah had heard from Lee. Lee apologized for the message he had left. He informed her in an almost remorseful tone, “You know when you work on the set, you can’t always get back to a phone, and I just didn’t want you to make plans. Farrah knew that at the time, Lee could have asked out any of the Hollywood actresses, but he chose to ask out the newcomer instead. This dashing actor appeared genuinely interested in taking her out.

The awkwardness and awkward silence of two high school students on their first date characterized their first evening together. As far as Lee was concerned, Farrah’s decision to spend a good chunk of the evening in the ladies’ room with a stomachache was evidence that she hadn’t wanted to go out on the date, to begin with. Nonetheless, Lee was resolved to keep this magnificent girl all to himself, and the following day he sent Farrah a present of thirteen yellow rose. Farrah was moved by his consideration, and the two became close, frequently appearing in public together at parties and nightclubs in Hollywood during the following months.

They tied the knot in a garden ceremony at the Bel-Air Hotel on July 28, 1973, five years after their first date. Lee’s dad Harvey Yeary served as the best man, and Farrah’s sister Diane Walls was the matron of honor. Lee Jr., who was only eleven years old at the time, was also there to watch his father marry. All of the bridal party’s custom attire was designed by renowned customer Theodore Van Runkle. Just by looking at a wedding photo, you can tell that this day was very meaningful for Lee and the new Mrs. Majors.
