Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen, who had everyone in the theatre laughing with his performance in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” seems destined for a career in comedy. In all honesty, before even considering his acting chops, it’s important to point out that just looking at him makes you laugh. The actor has the perfect comic features: a round face, framed by waves of hair, bright eyes, and a goofy grin. He is the absolute definition of childlike naiveté, goofiness, and endearing chubbiness! As a youngster, he realized he could make other people laugh with his naive antics and jokes.

When he realized how much he enjoyed making other people laugh, he decided to make comedy his profession of choice. During his teenage years, he started doing stand-up comedy. When Seth was 16, his family’s financial position worsened, so he decided to drop out of high school and seek a career as a full-time comic to help support his family. He eventually carved out a certain audience for himself and began making guest appearances on TV programs. A few early missteps didn’t prevent him from becoming a well-known TV actor who finally broke through to Hollywood.

The actor has come a long way from his stand-up comedy days. Mark Rogen, who worked for non-profits, and Sandy Belogus, a social worker, raised their child together. He’s the sole sibling in his family, and she’s his sister. Before relocating to the United States, he received his education in Vancouver at Point Grey Secondary and Vancouver Talmud Torah Elementary. He showed no interest in his studies and instead focused on comedy even as a student.

A funny kid from the start, at age 12 he enrolled in a Mark Pooley comedy class because he wanted to learn from the best. He started doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, usually at social events. When he was 16 years old, both his parents lost their jobs, and his mother resigned. Because of the family’s financial struggles, Seth turned to stand-up comedy to help make ends meet.

Director Judd Apatow saw potential in the young actor, so he cast him in the comedy-drama “Freaks and Geeks,” which was an instant smash when it debuted on television in 1999. Seth portrayed Ken in the show. In spite of the show’s short run, it managed to gain a dedicated fan base. He was asked to appear in “Undeclared,” Judd Apatow’s upcoming comedy series about a diverse bunch of first-year college students. This position was one he was willing to take on.

Seth was a part of the program in more ways than one. The run of this program was similarly short. He then went on to play a vigilante named Ricky in the 2001 supernatural thriller ‘Donnie Darko.’ The picture was well received by critics and audiences alike, and it made a tidy sum at the box office. In the 2005 romantic comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin, about a middle-aged man who longs to lose his virginity, he played a supporting role.

Both critics and audiences enjoyed the film. He played the role of Ben Stone, a lazy bum whose one-night stand with a successful career woman leads in the birth of their child, in the 2007 film Knocked Up. He directed the 2007 comedy film Superbad, for which he also wrote and produced. Seth co-wrote the film’s script with his friend Evan Goldberg when they were both in high school.

The film’s silly humour helped it to become a box office smash. In the 2008 comedy ‘Pineapple Express,’ which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, he played Dale Denton, a former heroin addict. Pineapple Express is a fictional strain of marijuana that plays a significant role in the plot of the film. James Franco also appeared in the picture, which was well-received by critics. Seth’s professional relationship with Apatow continues with the 2009 comedy-drama film Funny People, in which he co-starred alongside Adam Sandler and Leslie Mann.

The film received generally favourable responses, with many reviewers singling out Seth’s turn for special acclaim. In the 2011 action comedy “The Green Hornet,” he reprised his role as the slacker son of a widower. The film was a financial success despite its negative critical reception. He made his directing debut with the disaster comedy “This is the End” in 2013, which he directed alongside his longtime friend Evan Goldberg. It featured an ensemble cast, including Seth, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Emma Watson.

In terms of both acclaim and box office receipts, it was a smashing success. Most recently, he appeared in the Nicholas Stoller-directed comedy “Neighbors,” in which he played a married man and father whose life is flipped upside down when some eccentric new neighbours move in next door. Many believe this film to be Seth’s crowning achievement.

Rogen is the product of open-minded Jewish parents. He started performing stand-up comedy at the age of 13 in front of audiences that often included adults twice his age. Three years later, at the age of 16, he won the role of sarcastic Ken in the American high school television dramedy Freaks and Geeks.

Undeclared was a college-themed sitcom that Rogen starred in and wrote for in 2001. The series didn’t last long, but producer Judd Apatow was so impressed with Rogen that he hired him for both roles. When that show also went off the air, Rogen and his longtime buddy and creative partner Evan Goldberg got gigs on the Sacha Baron Cohen variety show Da Ali G Show. Rogen appeared in an episode of Dawson’s Creek, another show aimed at a young audience.

Meanwhile, Rogen’s partnership with Apatow continued to bear fruit, with the actor appearing in supporting roles in both Anchormen: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) and The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) (the latter of which saw Rogen steal scenes from Steve Carell). You, Me, and Dupree (2006) saw Rogen in another supporting role, but it was his subsequent picture that propelled him to stardom. Knocked Up, written and directed by Apatow, starring Rogen as an oafish pot-smoking slacker who gets unintentionally pregnant after having a one-night affair with a beautiful businesswoman (Katherine Heigl). Rogen’s charismatic performance helped the film break the $200 million worldwide box office record, and he quickly became an A-list actor.

Superbad (2007), a raunchy comedy of teen misadventures that Rogen and Goldberg had originally scripted when they were teenagers themselves, gave Rogen his first real shot at directing and producing his own films after years of wanting to do so. Rogen also made a brief appearance in the film as a bumbling police officer. Rogen and his Freaks and Geeks co-star James Franco starred in Pineapple Express (2008), which was written and directed by the same pair. While maintaining his busy schedule as a voice actor, Rogen also starred in animated feature films.

After starring as a mall officer in the bleak comedy Observe and Report with Adam Sandler in 2009, Rogen worked with Apatow again on the comedy Funny People, which followed the development of a friendship between two stand-ups. Later, he played the title role in The Green Hornet (2011), a superhero picture he and Goldberg adapted from the radio, TV, and comic book series of the same name, and he lent his voice to a sarcastic alien in the science fiction parody Paul (2011). In the romantic comedy 50/50 (2011), Rogen played the empathetic best friend of a young man with spine cancer; in the drama Take This Waltz (2011), he was at the centre of a love triangle, and his more subtle charms were noticed.

Rogen and Franco costarred in The Interview, a comedy about an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, which Rogen co-wrote and directed. The film was supposed to debut in December 2014, but Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. decided to delay its release after the company’s computer system was hacked in November and terrorist threats were made by the hackers, who were believed to be working for North Korea. In the end, it premiered on Christmas Day in a few art houses and on several pay-TV and streaming services.

Rogen played Wozniak in Steve Jobs (2015), a biopic about Apple’s cofounder and namesake. In the comedy The Night Before (2015), about a bunch of pals getting together for one last Christmas Eve drunken shindig, he returned to his comedic wheelhouse. Sausage Party (2016), an animated comedy in which Rogen also portrayed a foul-mouthed wiener, was written and voiced by Rogen. Following the making of The Room (2003), an infamously awful film that became a cult classic, he reunited with Franco the following year for The Disaster Artist.

Then in Like Father (2018), a comedy written by his wife Lauren Miller Rogen, he played the love interest of a lady (Kristen Bell) who had just been abandoned at the altar. One of his 2019 roles was in the romantic comedy Long Shot, in which he played an idealistic journalist who ends up working as a speechwriter for his childhood babysitter, who is now the United States secretary of state (Charlize Theron). In the 2019 Disney film adaptation of The Lion King, Rogen provided the voice for the character of Pumbaa. He played a Jewish immigrant who gets accidentally thrown into a pickle factory vat and is found a century later, looking as fresh as the day he was picked, in the upcoming 2020 comedy An American Pickle.

Apart from his on-screen exploits, Rogen was also rather busy in real life. He created (2019) the Canadian cannabis firm Houseplant with Goldberg and a few others. Rogen, the proprietor, was also a potter, therefore he offered his wares for sale. It was in 2021 that he released Yearbook, a compilation of hilarious essays.

Beginning his acting career in Romper Room when he was just five years old, DiCaprio went on to star in a number of commercials and educational shorts during his teenage years. Starting in 1990, he appeared on a number of different television shows, such as The New Lassie and Roseanne, before landing a recurring position on Growing Pains in 1991. In the same year, DiCaprio made his film debut in the low-budget horror picture Critters 3. With increasingly commercially successful films, Leonardo DiCaprio gained popularity in the mid-1990s.

Following his prominent role in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996), a contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic love story, he became an adolescent idol. James Cameron’s Titanic catapulted Leonardo DiCaprio to international fame in 1997. His attractiveness and moving performance as Jack Dawson, a starving artist who falls in love with a wealthy passenger (Kate Winslet), contributed to Titanic’s status as a box-office smash.
