Anapau enjoys skiing and horseback riding in her spare time. She has contributed editorials to The Stndrd Magazine and The Hollywood Film Journal, among other publications. Anapau attended Skidmore College in New York. Kristina Anapau: A big part of me was remorseful for not continuing with ballet when I was younger. About a year after my first film, I was still dancing a lot, and I was torn between living in LA or New York and pursuing dance more seriously.

I chose acting because I thought it was the career with the most longevity, and I was having so much success with it. But there was always a part of me that wondered what would have happened if I had pursued ballet. So, when I got the audition for Black Swan. It took about a month to find out if I got the part, so I resolved to attend ballet class every day for the next month.

That was an interesting process because I returned to ballet stronger than… when I was training to be a ballerina. There was a moment right before I found out I got the part when there was a visiting guest instructor from the London Royal Ballet. She was going around the class, criticizing everyone. People were in tears.

She was extremely harsh on everyone. You didn’t want her to stop in front of you. So she’s going around, and all of a sudden she stops in front of me, and I’m thinking, “Oh no, I’m too fragile right now, I can’t take this.” And she comes to a halt in front of me and says, “My dear, I’ve been looking for something wrong with you, but your technique is impeccable, and I simply can’t find anything wrong.” I couldn’t believe it, and after class, I went out to my car and began crying, saying, ”

I should’ve been a ballerina, what have I done with my life ka: I believe my passion has shifted more towards writing, producing, and developing projects. I love acting, and I’m probably better than I’ve ever been as an actress right now, but I’m also more focused on other things than I’ve ever been. Writing and producing is where my daily thoughts and attention are focused. THC: Many of the roles and projects you’ve taken on have dark and often paranormal themes, such as “The Glades,” “True Blood,” “Black Swan,” and “Grimm.” Is there something that draws you to that genre, or is it just the way the cookie has crumbled? KA: I believe that when it comes to auditioning and pursuing acting roles, as long as it’s a reputable show and a cool character, it’s never a bad idea.

It’s how the cookie crumbled in many ways. But, having said that, I believe project that type of energy to some extent. There must be something paranormal or metaphysical about me. ADVERTISEMENT THC: What’s next for you? KA: I co-created and produced this kids’ show for the entire year. We’ve shot about 36 episodes. Those are all in the works, and we’re currently negotiating with some major platforms.

The show has been airing for a while now, but it will now be available on some of the streaming platforms we all know and love. I’m also working on a feature film. When my co-star and I were on location in Maui, we came up with the idea. We’ve been working on this film on and off for the past year, and we now have a draught ready to shop and develop. THC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers before we wrap up? KA: “Kuleana,” the film I’m currently promoting, will be released on March 30.

It will be shown in theatres across the country. We filmed it in Hawaii. It’s a lovely film set in the 1970s with flashbacks to the 1950s, so super cool time periods in Hawaii with a very meaningful, lovely story. It’s a mystery drama, and I recommend it to everyone. It’s very artsy, beautifully shot, and very moving.
