Taylor was awarded the victory through unanimous decision (UD) after the judges scored 79–72, and 78–73, respectively. After hitting Warren Joubert numerous times with left hooks, Taylor knocked him out in the sixth round to win the Commonwealth championship fight on March 24. This was the first time that Taylor had successfully defended his title. After Joubert was knocked out in the sixth round, his corner decided to call it quits.
