The death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust is a source of sadness for those who worked with her on the film. A PEOPLE exclusive peek at tonight’s ABC News 20/20 series on the Rust tragedy shows actor Devon Werkheiser recalling Hutchins as being enthusiastic about filming the Alec Baldwin western in New Mexico with the cast and crew. ‘You’re there to produce a movie,’ Werkheiser says in the video above.

“This isn’t a result that you’ve even considered as a possibility,” he adds later. In addition to his role as Ned Bigby on the Nickelodeon sitcom Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Werkheiser has appeared in several films. “It was eventually discovered that something had happened with a gun,” he claimed, adding that those engaged in the manufacturing were “constantly assured that she was stable.”

“Many of us were anxiously awaiting word on her condition. There were individuals at the hospital with us. No one was informed, but nevertheless, the news made its way around the world before those of us who were directly engaged learned that she had passed away “Werkheiser expressed himself.  It doesn’t make any sense to lose her, does it? “he explained.

The experience of being on that set before, what it was like to go through that day, and what it was like to lose this person are all things you will never know.” Earlier this week, Baldwin gave his first sit-down interview since the event to ABC News, in which he told host George Stephanopoulos that he “didn’t pull the shot” that resulted in Hutchins’ death. “The trigger was not pulled in this instance.

I refrained from pulling the trigger. Never, ever would I raise a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them, ever, ever, ever “he explained. As for how the bullet wound up in the gun that was intended to be used as a prop on the set of the Western picture, Baldwin admitted that he had “no idea.”

Exclusive interviews with Thell Reed, the father of Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, Rust chief of lighting Serge Svetnoy, and Rust costume designer Terese Davis will also be included in the two-hour 20/20 special. The 20/20 special will air on ABC on Sunday, April 14.
