Abdul and Nilofar Azad gave birth to Afshan Azad on February 12, 1989, in Longsight, Manchester, England. Her parents were South Asians with Bangladeshi origins who had immigrated to England. She grew up in a very orthodox Muslim household. She was raised by three brothers.
She went to Manchester’s ‘Whalley Range High School’ after finishing elementary school. Before attending her first film audition, she was in high school and had never acted or had any theatrical experience.
