4ailon said “I had a strong desire to work as an obstetrician! I wanted to be a mother and bring children into the world…” Bailon was discovered by Ricky Martin, a Latin pop musician, while singing in a church choir at Madison Square Garden in October 1999.

Martin requested the group’s four finest vocalists, and Bailon was one of the four chosen to participate as backup singers during Martin’s Livin’ la Vida Loca Tour event later that night.

Bailon is a member of the 3LW girl group. While on a field trip to Beth Israel, Bailon was noticed by a producer and later offered a spot in the female trio.

According to Bailon, “It didn’t seem realistic, coming from very humble beginnings in the Lower East Side projects and having no “Hollywood” connections. I sang in church, acted in all of the church and school plays, and was ready to join a girl group when the opportunity arose.”

Epic Records had signed the band. The group’s other two members were Kiely Williams and Naturi Naughton, and work on their debut album began in 1999. The original line-up of 3LW was formed in 1999.

In the fall of 2000, they released their first single, “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right).” “No More” was a chart success, and “Playas Gon’ Play” was released in early 2001. 3LW released their self-titled debut album on November 14, 2000.

The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling 1.3 million copies in the United States.

The group joined Destiny’s Child, Dream, Nelly, Eve, and Jessica Simpson on the MTV Total Request Live tour in the summer of 2001.

In response to the 9/11 attacks, 3LW recorded “What More Can I Give” with several artists including Michael Jackson, Usher, Beyoncé, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey. They collaborated with Lil’ Romeo and Nick Cannon on the Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius soundtrack in late 2001 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”

3LW spent the first half of 2002 recording an album tentatively titled Same Game, Different Rules in the studio. The album, along with its planned lead single “Uh Oh,” was presented to the label, which felt it lacked enough urban radio appeal.

Epic considered dropping the girls after the tracks from Same Game, Different Rules were leaked on the Internet in MP3 format. Despite the album’s loss, a fan support campaign for 3LW, dubbed “Never Let Go of 3LW” after their song “Never Let Go,” gained traction on the radio, and the band was retained.

The group made a comeback in the summer of 2002 with the P. Diddy-produced single “I Do (Wanna Get Close To You),” which featured Loon. The group also did a Nickelodeon concert special called Live on Sunset that summer.

After heated arguments, member Naughton left the group for good in August, just as the group was about to release its newest album, A Girl Can Mack. Although the release date for A Girl Can Mack was pushed back a month, sales were still disappointing, with the album debuting at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 with only 53,000 copies sold in its first week.

Naturi Naughton announced that she was no longer a member of the group as the group was getting ready to release its second album.

Naughton claimed she had several conflicts and disagreements with Bailon, Williams, and their management, culminating in an altercation in August 2002. Naughton claimed she was kicked out of the group not long after.

Bailon signed with Island Def Jam Records and started working on her first studio album. “For everyone who wasn’t in, I officially revealed I have signed a solo contract with Island Def Jam!” Bailon said in a radio broadcast in New York City.

I’m delighted to finally be able to inform you. Shortly after signing with the company, Bailon started working on her first album. The tracks “Uncontrollable” and “Big Spender,” both included on the Confessions of a Shopaholic film soundtrack, were her first formal musical releases in 2009.

Many musicians contributed to the soundtrack, including Lady Gaga and the Pussycat Dolls. She was featured on Ghostface Killah’s song “I’ll Be That” on his eighth studio album Ghostdini: Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City later that year.

Bailon started dating Rob Kardashian, Kim Kardashian’s brother, in 2007. Bailon appears as Rob’s girlfriend in eight episodes of the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians when they were dating.

In addition to other parts of their relationship, Bailon and Kardashian got tattoos with each other on the program. In 2009, the couple announced their separation. “You know they say opposites attract,” Bailon said of the split.

I was born and raised in New York City. I guess the things that mattered to us were different at times.” Though the cause for the separation was not known at the time, it was subsequently found that Rob had cheated on Bailon throughout their relationship, which was the last straw.

Bailon made an appearance on MTV’s New Year’s broadcast from Times Square at the end of 2008, in preparation of her future afternoon hosting gig on the channel. Bailon moved to New York City for the role of hosting the MTV programming block New Afternoons in 2009.

In the same year, she co-hosted MTV News Presents: Top 9 of ’09, a live broadcast from inside and outside MTV Studios in Times Square of the year-end MTV New Year’s programming.

Bailon stated in 2012 that she will be a part of the reality program Empire Girls: Julissa and Adrienne, which would follow Bailon and her friend Julissa Bermudez.

“The show involves us trying to push our talents to the next level, going back to New York City, where we’re originally from to take our careers to that next level,” Bailon said of the program’s idea. The program debuted on Style Network on June 3, 2012, and has been a ratings hit. Bailon subsequently participated in Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything” music video.

Bailon co-hosted The Pepsi Pre-show Live with Jesse Giddings and Jim Cantiello on November 1, 2012, a podcast sponsored by Pepsi and streamed one hour before every episode in the live rounds of The X Factor (US TV series) online. B

ailon also left Island Def Jam in 2012 owing to creative issues. The Coalition, in which Bailon played Katalina Santiago, was released on DVD and Blu-ray in February 2013.

On April 21, 2013, Bailon featured in the ABC Family film Lovestruck: The Musical. Bailon sang “Like A Virgin,” a Madonna classic, alongside Sara Paxton and Chelsea Kane. Other songs Bailon sang in the film include “Everlasting Love,” which he sang with Paxton, Kane, and Drew Seeley. In October 2013, she starred in the film I’m in Love with a Church Girl, which was released.
